Marta Faustino

Marta Faustino is a post-doctoral research fellow at IFILNOVA (Nova Institute of Philosophy). She studied Sciences of Communication (2002) and Philosophy (2005) at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the New University of Lisbon and earned her Doctorate in Philosophy (2013), from the same university, with a thesis on Nietzsche’s conceptions of ‘great health’ and therapy.

During her PhD she made several research stays at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald (where she worked with the Nietzsche-Forschungsgruppe Greifswald, Germany), the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek (Weimar, Germany) and Tartu Ülikool (Tartu, Estonia).

She is currently working on her post-doc project on the notion of therapy in Western culture, according to the perspectives of Friedrich Nietzsche and Michel Foucault. She has collaborated with the research projects “Nietzsche and the Contemporary Debate on the Self” (PTDC/ FIL-FIL/ 111444/2009) and “The Plurality of the Subject in Nietzsche and Pessoa” (EXPL/MHC-FIL/1514/2013). She is a member of the Lisbon Nietzsche Group (formerly NIL), GIRN (Groupe International de Recherches sur Nietzsche), HyperNietzsche and Red Iberoamericana Foucault.

She is author of several articles on Nietzsche, Foucault and the Hellenistic philosophers, and co-editor of Nietzsche e Pessoa: Ensaios (Tinta-da-China, 2016). Her main research interests include practical philosophy, philosophical anthropology, philosophy of culture, and philosophy of psychiatry. Her general focus of investigation has mainly been the relationship between philosophy and therapy.
